Defending WT changing Doctrines

Well they can but, you can't tell anyone or promote the idea in the congergation.

Actually, you are thinking of oral sex (don't ask, don't tell), not vasectomy- it is a hard and fast rule, as I'll get to below.

They used the OT account of Onan, spilling his seed on the ground. Which doesn't actually happen w/ a vasectomy, of course. It does happen with the use of condoms, but I have a feeling many appointed "servants" (read: Overseers) use condoms freely.
If the point of Onan's account was that sex is only for procreation (which was not the point, but for the sake of discussion) then ALL forms of birth control are in violation of God's will.
But they choose to make an issue of vasectomies, for some strange reason.

The actual passage from Genesis 38 reads:

6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death.

8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight;

As is clear, this verse indicates Onan’s wrongdoing was neither masturbation (as mistakenly believed, quite commonly) nor does it have anything to do with birth control/vasectomy, etc.

Onan’s sin was not obeying God’s command regarding Brother in Law marriage, specifically, producing offspring for his brother.

I can not remember the convoluted reasoning that the WTBTS used to come to their false teaching that Ministerial Servants and Elders can not get vasectomies, nor can anyone wishing to. And, no, it’s not like the WTBTS current teaching on oral sex (don’t ask, don’t tell), it’s a flat out, hard and fast rule.

Perhaps Blondie or somebody else can post the citation from their literature?

Does the GB believe the doctrine themselves?

after reading crisis of conscience i got the impression that most on the gb actually believe all the doctrine themselves or at least that they believe that they are doing there best and god is helping/blessing them.. this sometimes seems unbelievable to me considering that they know about all the bad things in the org and see so many problems that the rank file normally does not notice or know about.

i'm currently reading combatting cult mind control by steve hassan.

when reading that book i can see that there are some cults that are far worse then the jws.

I think they are so haughty and arrogant that they refuse to believe anything that "isn't invented here" unless it suits their preconceived conclusions.

Funny that JWs are mentioned with the Rocky Horror Picture Show? Yes.

But in all honesty, as for the "lost money", that's a novel way of putting it. If they were given discounts for multiple bookings, the venue made money, it didn't lose it.

What do you do with your time???

well, now that you are out of the organization, what do you do with the time you gained?

let's see how much time we gained.. assuming you were a publisher you spend at least 2 hours in service 3 saturdays a month plus the service meeting and drive time to and from the kh, let's call that 10 hours a month.. 5 meetings a week plus "fellowshipping" before, after and drive time, let's call that another 40 hours a month.. then there was meeting prep.

You missed something in your math:

5 meetings a week plus "fellowshipping" before, after and drive time, let's call that another 10 hours a month.

With driving and prep should be minimum 10 hours/week. So 4.3 weeks/month= 43 hours. 43+18=61 hours minimum hours/month free time.

I agree with what's been said- for me, more time for exercise, recreation, research, and running a business.

now i am just a young guy myself, but do you feel that kids these days are getting stupider?

i personally feel that kids are getting stupider.. take for instance my exprience today.

i went to pickup stix and ordered the kung pao chicken.

Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner has identified seven types of intelligences in children. It gives fresh and deeper meaning to ‘smart.’:

What parent doesn’t want a smarter child?

Right, nobody raising their hands out there in cyberspace. But the next set of questions is where a Great Divide of Parenting comes into full frame. Smarter in what way? Just who is defining smart? Does this mean my kid will do better on academic tests? What’s the value of being smart if we aren’t teaching values such as kindness or honesty?

Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner rides the ridge of that great divide. He is widely known as the creator of multiple-intelligence theory for children. Gardner has identified seven distinct types of intelligence (think learning styles). It is estimated by researchers that only three of Gardner’s seven types are actually evaluated on traditional IQ tests.

We’ll get to the seven intelligence types below. First, consider these insights from Gardner as he refers to his own children, in his book, Intelligence Reframed:

“I want my children to understand the world, but not just because the world is fascinating and the human mind is curious,” writes Gardner. “I want them to understand it so that they will be positioned to make it a better place.”

That’s a different sort of intelligence, and no doubt hard to turn into a multiple-choice exam. There is no one right way to make the world a better place. So it follows that Gardner sees kids as possessing different types of intelligence to get that ambitious job done. Here are his categories, which, honestly, not all of Gardner’s colleagues readily accept. Yet the days of considering intelligence as a singular concept are long past, thanks in large part to Gardner’s breakthrough sorting.

Linguistic intelligence: Deals with words. This is the primary intelligence for storytellers, journalists and attorneys. It provides the foundation to effectively inform, persuade, argue, teach and entertain. Kids high in this intelligence will be proficient with word games and tongue twisters. They will enjoy the sounds of words and tend to be avid readers and clear writers.

Logical-mathematical intelligence: Not surprisingly, this is the mind’s ability to work with numbers and logic sequencing. Think scientists, accountants, software developers. Kids with this intelligence set will be good at understanding cause and effect, numerical patterns and rationale (which could come in handy in dealing with the parents too).

Spatial intelligence: It covers the ability to conceptualize in mental images and pictures. Typical careers are in photography and art. These kids are good at visual details and tend to draw graphics and 3-D images that seem beyond their years. A key facet is the child’s ability to transfer those mental pictures to a form the rest of us can see.
